How It Works

From Ballot Design to Certified Results

Clear Ballot combines the time-tested reliability of paper ballots with modern scanning and imaging technology — making every step of your election observable, auditable, and defensible.

Step 01

Ballot Design & Printing

Ballots are designed and printed to specification for your election. Each ballot style is reviewed and proofed by you before going to press.

Step 02

Member Marks Their Ballot

Each eligible member marks their paper ballot privately — at a polling location or by mail. The physical ballot is the legal record of their vote at every stage of the process.

Step 03

Ballots Are Collected & Logged

Mail-in ballots are received at a dedicated P.O. Box. Logged on arrival, returned envelopes are held under seal until eligibility is verified. Voters are notified of receipt by email or SMS.

Step 04

High-Resolution Scanning

Each ballot is scanned to capture voter intent as well as a high-resolution image. Every mark is immutably recorded as a permanent digital record alongside the original paper.

Step 05

Visual Adjudication

Ballots with ambiguous marks are reviewed digitally — with all stakeholders able to observe. This virtually eliminates tabulation errors or any risk of physical ballot degradation.

Step 06

Reporting & Archiving

On tabulation, your organization is issued a Certified Results Report. Ballots and the immutable Clear Ballot® tabulation log are archived for one year in case of an audit.

Bottom Line

Election Trust® deploys Clear Ballot as a fully managed service — your organization gets enterprise-grade election technology without managing any hardware, software, or compliance obligations. And it is federally certified!
